Thanks for the video, and

Thanks for the video, and great job with the audio.  Really appreciate that.

Screen casting was pretty

Screen casting was pretty cool.  Nice job with image quality and audio, except for user questions (but that is almost always a problem in a public forum).  I think it would have been better if more the video showed both screens at once, so you could really see what kind of delay / lag was present (instead of panning back and forth).  Although it was fairly obvious that lag was not very much... I'm guessing less than a second.

That would require a second videocamera running at the same time.

Want to chip in for another? :)

At the beginning of the video

At the beginning of the video, there is a shot showing both screens.  The speaker was talking about how it works, and the screens were just sitting idle in the background; later we he began running programs, the camera zoomed in to one of the screens, then would periodically pan back and forth between screens as the program was running.

Like I was saying, you can infer the time lag (by carefully watching and mentally timing during the close-up and panning), but I think it would have been better to see a wide-angle shot again (when something was actually hapenning on the computer screens) to clearly see the time difference...

I hope you don't take that as a negative view of your work (I really do appreciate it), but simply as constructive feedback.

Cool, always love to hear

Cool, always love to hear from the folks at Commodore.  Umm, YouTube seems to be suffering technical difficulities, at about 12:10 (out of 14:23) there is a message "An error occurred, please try again later.  Learn More"  Well I tried again, but got the same error.

Congradulations!  You broke YouTube... /sarcasm (it is actually quite easy)

Maybe one day they'll get their act together and I can see the conclusion, but regardless, it was very intersting.  Thanks to both of you for bringing this to everyone!

Re: Videos from CommVEx v10 2014

A video presentation not shown at CommVEx (due to a lack of time) was Jan Derogee's presentation of Cassiopei, the 8-meg storage device for Commodore computers which have a cassette port.

It is very full-featured and fast! For more information on it, go to

Cassiopei is quite

Cassiopei is quite fascinating.  It looks like Mr. Derogee is still working on a C128 version of the tape loader, and the video encoder for any version.   Well someday I hope... I'm anxious to see what it looks like for comparison with my own software and maybe I will get some good ideas too.  It sounds like video is about 1 FPS which is a bit slower than PETpix, but since it is still under developement, it could change.

Also cool is the USB interface for PC and, even better (perhaps) is the special IO port... the 10 bit ADC and I2C features sounds great for hardware hacking... might have to get one!

Really impressed he took the time to make it work on the various CBM machines... the choice of cassette as a common interace is natural, but I learned by reading his documentation that the signals on the cassette port vary by machine... I know writing software to work on all various CBMs is a challenge, but I didn't know until now there is also hardware changes to deal with.

The WAV player was also interesting, glad you got that in the video.  I really don't understand how he did 4-bit audio on a VIC-20, but pretty cool.  Also interesting is the same 4-bit file will play at full 8-bit quality thorugh its IO port.

I wish there had been time to demonstrate the speech synthesiser, but it is already a lengthy video, so I understand.  Thanks for bringing this to us!

Oh yeah, the audio was pretty good, I had no trouble understanding Jan despite the noisy environment.

Yes, according to his website, the C128 version is the most important to finish right now.

> ...the 10 bit ADC and I2C features sound great for hardware hacking...

I ran out of tape to show when he controlled lights and motors with the Cassiopei and his C64 with just a little bit of BASIC coding.

> I wish there had been time to demonstrate the speech synthesizer...

Yeah, he didn't demonstrate that feature.
