8502 and Z80A

I know that the C128 has two CPUs. Is it possible to run the 8502 and the Z80A in parallel? If yes, how would you do that?

I bought a Commodore 16 off of Ebay

I bought a Commodore 16 off of Ebay for $26.  What I paid isn't the end of the world.  I noticed that one of the stickers underneath the computer was loose and on crooked.  Does this indicate that the unit was opened or worked on?

In the past, Commodore said that the warrenty was void if the consumer opened the unit.  What criteria did they use to determine if a unit was opened or worked on?  Did they use screws that stripped when you tried to remove them?

ASIC design and Commodore

At commodore...
Who decided what was going to be implemented in chips?
What type of chips from other manufacturers was allowed to be used?
Who decided what chips was going to be manufactured?
Did the developers do any experimental designs manufactured in ASIC's?
What was the relationship between development and the commodore ASIC fab?

What would be a good co-processor for the 6502?

Apatco sells a single board computer with the 65C02 and 65C812S.  I have been thinking about getting one because the bootstrap process is done and I can learn from it.

I'm wondering if there are any microcontrollers that would be good as a co-processor.

I'm also divided because I don't know where to get any RAM chips or Eproms over 32 K.  I found that Willem programmers are cheap but other programmers are not.  The problem is my wanting to start so late with a processor that is as old as the 6502.

1572

Hi,
I'm a collector of Commodore computers interested in the 1572 disk drive which was never released. I would like to ask you, Bil, if you know any technical details about this disk drive? Do you know who was responsible for the development of the 1572? Why was the 1572 never released? Was the 1572 shown at the CES 1985 a working prototype or just a mock-up? What happened to the 1572 shown at the CES?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Martin

RIP Jack Tramiel

This guy probably did more to the computer history than Steve Jobs ever did.
Jack Tramiel passed away on Sunday, surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old.

Why did the colors bleed on the C-64?

Why did the colors bleed on the C-64?

When doing hi-resolution bitmapped drawings in color, if I painted too many colors in one area, the colors would bleed.  I think if I put three or four colors too close together, they would bleed together.

Companies like Electronic Arts were always better at color drawings in their games.  I don't know why but their pictures didn't bleed.

Is there a clear answer on this?
