ATX Power supply mod

I just wanted to share a little project I've been working on to replace a traditional C128/C64 power supply with an ATX power supply.   It's not for the feint hearted, or purists, as it involves several modifications to the main board.  It's also not a complete replacement as some accessories may not work.

It's still a work in progress, but I am currently using it on my own C128.

Features:

  • Power on/off using the restore key
  • 60Hz clock simulated for Time Of Day
  • Ability to switch and default a high/low ROM (ie JiffyDOS modded)

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks for sharing.  The TOD

Thanks for sharing.  The TOD hack is cool, the ability switch ROMs is cool, use of the RESTORE key is not cool.  In several apps (or in BASIC itself), the system will crash and needs "soft reset" = STOP + RESTORE keys... doing a hard reboot is unacceptable.  That said, using an ATX power supply is cool... faulty power supplies are a very common problem, so I salute you for giving all of us a working solution!

Hi Hydrophilic,

Hi Hydrophilic,
I made sure the use of Restore still worked, as I know how essential it is.  To power up, you hold down restore for 1 second, to power down you hold down restore for 10 seconds.  Otherwise the key works exactly as before.

Cheers,
Mark

Well in that case, it sounds

Well in that case, it sounds super awesome!
Edit
Looking at your schematic, it is not obvious there is 1second / 10second delay.  In fact, after further review, I do not see how this delay is implemented IN ANY CASE.  Please elighten us (or perhaps just me )
