Better Forums?

I have thought about about linking out to one of the more standard forums providers/formats that everyone is used to.  The concerns I would have would  prolific advertising and single-sign-on. If anyone has any feedback please post or contact me.
Also if anyone gets a "permission denied" from a forum page, please email me using the contact us link in the footer.

You're at the crossroads

You're at the crossroads everyone comes to. Weak CMS & strong forums or vica versa. Drupal is very strong in the CMS area especially for custom content, but many people say it's weak in the forum area.

I'm on the other side of the fence right now... I run vBulletin which has one of the strongest forums, but it's an old monolithic product that is showing it's age and lack of modularity.
I haven't done this myself but since I'm thinking of switching to Drupal, I've done some investigation into forums for Drupal. It looks as though you may be able to integrate SMF into Drupal which besides vBulletin, would be my second choice for a strong forum system (plus it's free).
Here's the module you may be interested in:

The only issue is this Drupal SMF bridge looks dated and may not be any good for Drupal 7 / SMF 2.X
There's a newer discussion here:

But no concrete answers.
Wish I had a better answer for ya.

Thanks Ernest..  Even replying to you was weird, It looks like I am starting a new post if not a topic.  I did just install "subscriptions" which was noticeably absent, did have to hand patch some files.

Oh man... I'm noticing you're forum is being overrun with SPAM... I'm not sure what registration options Drupal has but one way to thwart these automated bots is to craft some of your own challenge response questions.

Example:

Stuff like that that's obvious to a human but a bot can't guess it to automatically register and spam your board. You still get human generated spam but it's much fewer and farther between.

Spam

Yeah the problem is that I thought if somone took the time to sign up they wouldnt be spammers, silly me.  I went to kick on the Captua but it appears to need trobleshooting.
Thanks, I will try and get a handle on it.

Captchas have been defeated

Captchas have been defeated for some time... I really suggest registration questions.
Captcha riddler seems to allow you to craft your own questions.
