Since the C128/Amiga500/600/1200/ square DIN cables are impossible to find...
When they are made and sold

When they are made and sold the ground was an important part of passing FCC for emissions and interference. Properly designed there should be no current on the shield (brush a serial cable between the 1541 metal and a C64 and you will actually see small sparks) or at the least it shouldn't be important to operation.

Properly designed that is. So it's possible it may have an inadvertent effect and its more important on the video cable.

So the shortest answer is "Try it", a slighly longer answer is "Try it, it  should work"

Thanks Bill. Will make the

Not impossible, because Ray Carlsen has a supplier for new C128 and Amiga 500/600/1200 connectors. Ray uses those new connectors for his new C128 and Amiga external power supplies. What is impossible to find new are the Plus/4 connectors. There is no supplier for them, and Ray has to custom-build each connector for his new Plus/4 power supplies.

Why don't you send an e-mail to Ray and find out?

Then there would be no more speculation,

He does build his own Plus/4 power connectors.

Unless Ray is given a used one to put into his power supplies, he now has to hand-build the connectors. Takes about 30-45 minutes to build one.
