One of my short term projects is to finish cleaning and restoring my C128D, all the plastics are in great condition and the thing after some retr0brite treatment look like new. One issue I have is someone put something on top of it that did not have any pads therefore scratching the top badly. Does anyone have any idea what color was used for the metal case or some modern equivalent? I want this thing to look like new and since I will have it apart after Christmas vacation to install JiffyDos that will be the perfect time to paint it.
Also did anyone notice the moth exiting the computer in yesterdays Google Doodle? Found a similar moth in the 128! Nice tribute to the lady that more or less made my dad's job possible. He is one of the few at his work that knows COBOL. They do not even offer a COBOL class at school so I guess when all the COBOL programmers retire there will be some very high paid retirees working as consultants!

C128D
Have you considered taking it to a hardware place or automobile shop to have the color analyzed by one of their machines?

Lol... I hav enever seen a metal case on a Commodore. There would eb a slight chance that it is a Pantione color but Robert's comment is a good one, they are color analysers and you may want a better paint job than a "rattlecan" can do so a custom auto repair or fab shop might be able to match and paint.... unfortunately for probably as much as the C128 cost ya to begin with.

Thats a great idea, I have a decent NAPA store that does paint mixing near campus. Outside of being a student I work for my university's Transportation Department which includes our auto repair department. I probably can bribe the night mechanic to spray it if I supply the paint, most likely for the cost of a case of beer. I take it the 128D was a product after you left Commodore? One thing I've noticed is the manufacturing timelines of some of their products were odd, seems like there were several people in charge all doing their own thing with their own departments and no communication between anyone.
We designed for a D to be released right away (check out http://c128.com/real-commodore-c128d-originally-designed-least ) However managment forgot to or some other excuse and then one of the other offices released it, hence the metal version. I have never even seen a metal version and I dont think I would want to, like your kid coming homw with head to toe tattoes or something.

Is it still in one piece :) that sounds like it could have been a risky idea
Well, it was another user's C128DCR, and so, Bil couldn't take it apart. :)
